January 24th
- Finish up presentation on elements and principles of design
- Scavenger hunt on Type Families
- Slide show on type and image as preparation for first class assignment
- Students will brainstorm ideas for their first project: Our first project will be to design either (1) an album cover for a music group or solo album cover in response to the lyrics in one of the songs; (2) design a poster for a movie or theatrical performance; (3) a book, graphic novel, or comic book cover; or (4) design a poster for New York Fashion Week.
- First research: What has been done before in this field that has been successful/not successful? How will your design stand out in this context?
- Think about what it is that you want to communicate through this design? What feeling, mood, emotion do you want to project? What kind of genre does the work relate to? What kind of related style are you looking for? Do you think this would work for the audience that you are trying to reach?
- Then sketch before going into Photoshop. First think, then do.
