My joy in teaching this class is the pleasure in seeing how my students grow and in that journey how my students discover their creative capacity and the different ways they find their artistic "voices".

Course Description
This course will introduce the students to design thinking and design principles in conjunction with computer graphics software and techniques. Students will learn fundamental skills through project-based learning in graphic design, digital imaging, and illustration using industry standard graphics software.
Course Objectives
- Students will learn design thinking
- Students will learn how to write a creative brief
- Students will learn design principles
- Students will learn how to use the Adobe Suite: Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
- Students will learn how to create an online portfolio
Expectations
- Students will attend all classes and be punctual
- Students will do all the assignments in a timely fashion
- Students will fulfill all assignments to the best of their abilities
- Students that miss classes will make up the work they missed outside of class time
- Students will actively participate in critiques
- Students will be courteous and considerate
Grading
Grades are earned, not given. They will be based on attendance, active participation, attitude, and quality of fulfilled assignments.
Tests: 10%
Design Brief: 10%
Assignments: 50%
Online Portfolio: 10%
Participation: (attendance, critique participation, and attitude) 15%
Presentation on a designer: 5%
Arriving more than 10 minutes late will be marked as an absence.
Three absences will result in going down a grade.
Work not handed in on time will result in going down a letter grade. The work will still have to be handed in. Each day that it is late it will go down a further grade.
